The Hollidaysburg Area Arts Council is a volunteer organization located in Hollidaysburg, PA, affiliated with the Borough of Hollidaysburg, celebrating 27 years.

The goal of the Council is to enrich the Hollidaysburg area with arts & music through events, camps, concerts & more. With the belief that everyone, no matter what the age, should have the opportunity to hear a concert, and explore their creative side.

Preliminary ideas were exchanged to create an Arts Council at a meeting in October of 1998, and soon a town meeting was called to seek community input. The meeting space quickly filled with local residents. The group expressed thoughts and ideas about the Council’s future and its benefit to the town of Hollidaysburg.

All agreed it was a concept that should move forward. This vote of confidence gave the Council a great start in becoming a valued community asset, which it remains today.

The Art Council’s initial funding came through grants from the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and the Borough of Hollidaysburg, along with financial support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.

With a Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance grant, a public art project invited artists of all ages to participate in a mural depicting Blair County’s towns. With two very talented artists, Deb Bunnel & Kathy Gassler, creating a design for the Blair County District Magistrate Building on 301 Union Street, the mural was completed three months later and received special recognition from the Blair County Historical Society.

The Council offers a variety of programs to the public, including annual summer Kids Art Camps and the Music In The Burg, as well as participating in Hollidaysburg’s Borough events (Winterfest & Pumpkinfest), and Blossom in the Burg.

This amazing collaborative community effort now plays a vital part in enriching lives not only in Hollidaysburg but throughout Blair County as well.
